We don't have all of the men here because we are having the actor's wear their own black or dark gray dress pants (Lanyon and the Inspector are encouraged to go lighter). We have one pinstriped suit that has been donated and may be tailored and a couple of black suit jackets we can tailor. We need vests and jackets for the men. We have a pea coat we are considering for Hyde - but he would still need a formal jacket when he drops in on the party - unless he shows up in Jekyll's tails because he HAS just transformed from Jekyll into Hyde - I just don't want him to look like he is playing dress up in Jekyll's giant clothing. We will also need to make neck ties for the gentlemen. We are emulating the look of JJ Feilds in Ruby in the Smoke for our men as much as possible for the vests and neckties. Charlie, our delivery boy needs to be dressed like a street urchin or Gavroche (Oliver Twist meets the Artful Dodger) - so, a lot of dirty brown fabrics.
We need hats for the ladies. The ladies are our color. Kiki is literally a peacock. Miriam is dressed only slightly less brightly. Mama Hobart is fashionably moderate and Ernestine is the least flashy. Mrs. Poole and Anne are domestics and dress for their status in black. Anne will wear black with a white apron and a mob cap and Mrs. Poole will look quite authoratative in all black - except for a white bit of fabric at her high collar and at her cuffs. Think Mrs. Danvers from Rebecca. The townspeople and partygoers (same performers) will wear their skirts throughout the play, regardless of role, but at the party, they will switch into bolero jackets made from satin. Some of the younger girls will wear a lacy shawl instead of a bolero jacket.
